What do we classify as glass waste?
It’s vital that we make sure the right bins are used for the right types of waste so that we can recover and recycle as much as possible. While we don’t treat it as standard glass waste, our friendly team can also help you dispose of special types of glass, such as flat sheets and light bulbs. Get in touch to find out more.
Here’s what can go in our standard glass waste collections:
Some types of glass are not classified as standard glass waste, things like large glass sheets, pyrex glass, computer screens or lightbulbs. We can still help you to dispose of these items, but they may fall under a different classification and require a specific container type. Please contact our team on 0808 145 4533 (08.30 - 17.00 – Monday to Friday) for help if you are looking to dispose of non-standard glass items.
While small glass jars and bottles are commonplace, we rarely receive large, intact pieces of glass such as flat window panes. These products are usually broken during loading and transporting or when tipped out on site. On the rare occasions we do receive large, flat glass, it is generally broken down and disposed of alongside hardcore waste.

Once collected, your glass waste is sorted, crushed, cleaned and melted down ready to be reused as new glass products, such as bottles or jars. The process is:
Glass waste is collected and brought to our recycling centre
We then arrange for specialists to sort the glass thoroughly washed to remove any remaining labels, food residue or other contaminants.
The newly cleaned glass is crushed down to produce cullet
The cullet is melted down into a liquid and moulded into new products
