With an estimated 4.5 million tonnes of wood waste being created within the UK each year, responsible waste disposal and recycling is vital to the environment, limiting the number of trees that need to be cut down to keep up with demand.

Our local wood collection service means there’s always wood recycling near you, so you won’t need to load up a van and take it to a waste facility yourself. All the waste wood we collect is sent for recycling and converted into animal bedding, chipboard or renewable energy.

Government policy change

From the 1st September 2023 government policy relating to wood waste will change for processing wood. This change now means that some wood may be classed as hazardous and will need to be separated and tested at source by waste providers. This information will then need to be provided to Hills Waste Solutions prior to arranging for collection.

The following items are likely to be affected by the changes:

 

  • Barge boards, fascia’s and soffits
  • External joinery (wooden windows & Conservatories)
  • External Doors
  • Roof Timbers
  • Tiling and Cladding Battens
  • Timber Frames/Joists

Items such as telegraph poles, railway sleepers, treated woods are already considered as hazardous.
