Our capacity to collect more food waste from West Country businesses just increased with the arrival of our new Truck.
When it was time to replace one of our trucks after a long and busy service, we took the opportunity to increase the capacity of the waste food collected from 12 tons to 16 tons, a significant improvement which will help serve more customers, whether they are schools or universities or pubs or restaurants.
Improved Efficiency
Increasing capacity means our truck can stay out longer before returning to the depot, which means we collect more waste on the same round. This is a much more efficient way to collect waste, reducing the number of journeys and mileage undertaken to collect the waste.
Being more efficient with our route planning and compliant with the latest Euro 6 emission regulations means we are also kinder to the environment.
Additional Capacity
As well as being bigger, our truck also comes with 2 useful features which the driver can use at their discretion:
- Bin rinse – when emptying the food waste into the truck, the driver has the option of using a freshwater spray on top of the truck once the waste food waste has been emptied and while it's still upside down. After rinsing, the used water is retained inside the truck for disposal with the food waste, which helps with anaerobic digestion.
- Jet wash lance – when more power is required, our driver can use a hand-held lance to clean the bins with a powerful water jet.
Road Safety commitment
As you would expect from Hills, we are committed to road safety. Our new truck is well-specified with various safety features, enabling drivers to see hazards, whether with camera aids or by using the low-level glass panels on passenger doors to identify near-side obstacles.
