Hooklift service key features

Hills RoRo bins
With sizes available between 20 and 40 yards, including lockable and enclosed options, our roll-on roll-off waste containers are built for the challenge of removing construction and demolition waste, as well as providing a large load collection and disposal service for distribution, warehousing businesses and high waste volume producers in the tourism industry. Our roll-on roll-off bins:
- Have fully opening rear doors
- Open-top options available
- Can be supplied with low-level sides for simple top-loading. (15 & 20 yard RoRo's).
- Compactors can be supplied. Ask us for more details.
Compactors
We can also supply static or portable compactors to compress your waste and maximise the amount we can collect. This can offer businesses a cost-effective solution, reducing the number of collections required for larger volume producers, such as manufacturing, industrial and retail businesses.
We can provide both one-off hire or arrange more regular contract arrangements.
Call us on 0808 145 4533.

Manage your paperwork online
On collection, we’ll provide you with a waste transfer note via email. Account customers can also sign up for our online Customer Portal, where you’ll have access to your collections (historic and future), copies of invoices and copies of Waste Transfer Notes. This is particularly useful for businesses that use our services regularly.

Lockable containers
Our enclosed containers ensure waste is stored safely and can help to avoid unwanted fly-tipping.
They also help keep waste dry, avoiding chemical reactions in materials such as plasterboard, and additional charges from increased weight due to water absorption.

Wait-and-load service available
We offer a wait-and-load service option for urban sites without suitable room to leave a skip. This service has up to 15 minutes of free service time included. Additional wait time will incur an extra cost.

How much will RoRo hire cost?
The cost of hiring a RoRo will depend on several factors, including:
- Container size - whether you book a 15yd, 20yd, 35yd and 40yd RoRo
- Waste type - the type of waste you’re disposing of
- Hire duration - If using wait and load, additional time after the first 15 minutes will be charged for
- Overweight charges - If you exceed the agreed tonnage
When you book, we’ll agree a base price for the waste type, tonnage and size of hooklift bin.
Excess charges for exceeding agreed tonnage or extra wait and load time will be calculated and billed after collection.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is the difference between a regular skip and a RoRo?
Standard skips are smaller waste containers designed to be lifted onto a platform or vehicle by hydraulic lifting arms. They’re ideal for transporting waste from small-scale construction and commercial projects. RoRos are larger than skips, designed to move high volumes or bulky waste, for example, from industrial construction and demolition sites. Unlike a typical skip, roll-on roll-offs are fitted with wheels to help them roll on and roll off a flatbed truck. It also makes them easier to manoeuvre when full.
-
How does our compaction service work?
We can supply static and portable compactors, depending on requirements. Bulky waste is compressed, and that waste can then be put into the container to maximise available space. Certain compactors can be fixed to containers. Depending on the size of hooklift you need, we can recommend the appropriate compactor. Contact us for more information.
-
20yd RoRo vs 40yd RoRo: which size do I need?
The size of RoRo you need depends on how much waste you need to dispose of. As a guide, we have indicated the number of black bags each container can hold in the table above.
If you’re disposing of heavy materials, you should choose a smaller container like our 20-yard RoRo so it falls within road weight limits. Larger RoRo's, like the 40-yard, are better suited to lighter, high-volume, bulky waste.
For more information, see our chart above.
-
How big is a 40-yard RoRo?
A 40 Yard RoRo has a capacity of 40 yards³ / 30.6 m³. That’s equivalent to around 380 black bags. It measures 2400 mm wide, 2650 mm high and 6000 mm long.
-
Can I use a RoRo for demolition waste?
RoRos are perfectly suited to demolition and construction waste, but their large capacity makes them ideal for waste types from many industries, including:
-
Can general waste go in?
General waste can go into our hooklift bins. However, hazardous and WEEE waste must be kept separate and cannot be mixed with other waste types.
-
How long can I keep it?
The duration of the RoRo Hire can be discussed as part of the contract with us. Just ask for more details.
-
Do I need a permit?
If you’re keeping your RoRo on your designated site, in a suitable location you do not need a permit. Due to their size, they cannot be left on roads or public land. In instances where there isn’t adequate room to place it on site, we offer a wait and load service where we will wait while you fill the hooklift and then take it away. The first 15minutes is free, additional time will be chargeable.
-
Can it be locked?
We offer a 35-yard lockable, enclosed hooklift.
-
What's the difference between enclosed and open hooklifts?
An enclosed hooklift has a solid, lockable side that keeps contents secure and protected from the elements. An open hooklift has no roof and has some similar characteristics to an open skip, but larger.
-
Can RoRo skips be used on construction sites?
Yes, RoRo skips are ideally suited for use on construction sites.
-
What happens to the waste afterwards?
We will take your waste to our facilities, where it can be processed. Depending on the waste type, it will be recycled, repurposed or used to generate energy. We only use landfill as a last resort. Visit oursustainability page for more information.
-
Can asbestos go in?
Yes, asbestos can go in our 15-yard, 20-yard, 35-yard and 40-yard RoRo bins.
-
What weight can a RoRo hold?
This will depend upon the size of the container, and the vehicle used to collect the waste. Please contact us for further information.
